“We did everything they asked,” Hill told The Nugget. “...We had a presentation, we sent them packets of information of everything we’d done. We’ve been in contact with zoning and planning, so I don’t know what happened.”
During the original public hearing on the gun range, the board listened to the complaints of neighbors against the gun range being commercially operated, as well as those who supported Hill and his business, and formed a list of conditions to be met by the applicants. Hill says he’s worked with the planning department since the meeting and felt like they were on the way to approval at the meeting. |

Second Amendment protesters interrupted the Otter Tail County Commission meeting in Fergus Falls on Tuesday, Sept. 28, demanding that the county hear their request to provide additional protections for gun owners — a move that commissioners said would not change the freedom to bear arms in the county.
“You are there to represent us, we, the people,” said a woman who did not identify herself and who said her group has tried unsuccessfully to get on the county's agenda. “And it’s not your obligation to ignore us.” She interrupted the county attorney, Michelle Eldien, who was attempting to respond, and Board Chairman Lee Rogness threatened to call her out of order if she did not allow Eldien to speak. |

Illinois State Representative Margaret Croke file HB4156 today, which would make firearms manufacturers and dealers (including people who legally sell firearms) financially responsible for injuries or deaths which results from the unlawful discharge of a firearm in the State.
...
This Bill, which will hopefully never see the light of day, also strips a plethora of defenses from any Defendant who is accused under this Bill should it become law.
It even strips a Court's power to find it inconsistent with the Second Amendment unless certain strict conditions are proven. |

Dist. Atty. Ismael Ozanne explained his office determined Reifert was in the room he rented when the person who died in the shooting entered “forcibly and unlawfully,” then, that person reportedly refused to leave and took an aggressive stance against Reifert.
Based on that, the district attorney stated the state’s self-defense statute that is commonly known as the Castle Doctrine applied.
“The law does not permit me to consider whether Mr. Reifert had an ability to flee or retreat from this situation and I am required to presume that Mr. Reifert reasonably believed the force used was necessary,” Ozanne wrote in the statement. |

Instead, Lamberth ruled, laws banning carrying firearms in public and nonresidents from registering firearms, and permitting the arrest of nonresidents for carrying weapons or ammunition without a license, “go the core of the Second Amendment.” The judge said the amendment preserves the “right of responsible citizens to carry firearms for personal self-defense beyond the home, subject to long-standing restrictions,” quoting the 2017 opinion, Wrenn v. District of Columbia.
“The District violated the plaintiffs’ Second Amendment rights by arresting them, detaining them, prosecuting them, and seizing their guns based on an unconstitutional set of D.C. laws,” Lamberth wrote. |

A 63-year-old man called Washington police to report he had been accidentally shot by his son after he mistakenly thought he was an intruder.
The shooting occurred just after midnight, and the police then searched the home but found no evidence of any actual break-in.
Authorities also stated the shooting appeared to be accidental and the son “may have mistaken his father for an intruder.” |

A case on the court's calendar for November deals with the right to carry a firearm in public for self-defense. But gun owners also want the justices to take a case about a New Jersey law that bars citizens from owning firearm magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
The group says that magazines that hold more than 10 rounds are standard for some of the most popular handguns in America. They want the court to say that New Jersey's law and similar bans in seven other states and the District of Columbia are unconstitutional.
Again, the court might wait to deal with the New York gun case before acting on the gun magazine case. |

I supported the NDAA because I am a member of the House Armed Services Committee and voting in favor will allow me to have a voice in the Conference process so I can ensure this horrible provision is removed. If for some reason that does not happen, I will vote NO on the final version of the NDAA when it comes to the House Floor for a vote in a few months. As an ardent defender of the Second Amendment, I will work aggressively with my House and Senate colleagues to make sure no attack on gun rights becomes law. I have been and will continue to be 100% pro-Second Amendment, without ANY exceptions, and will NOT support passage of red flag laws. Period.” |

Larsen said even if the court issues a narrow decision in the case, or allows some limits on the right to carry a firearm in public, the conservative justices will likely include language that strengthens Second Amendment rights.
"If the court holds the Second Amendment protects the right to carry a gun outside the home, that will be a very clear sign they are quite serious of the right they articulated in Heller, and they're ready to get back in the business of elaborating on it," she said, referencing the 2008 decision in Heller v. District of Columbia. |

Pheasant hunting season in Minnesota opens on October 10th, but many still may not have any ammo to hunt with.
"It's been really frustrating. It's bad when you have people come in and you can sell them a firearm, but you can't sell them ammo," said County Line Firearms Owner Troy Arnold. "There are more people shooting. There are more people getting into the hobby out there, there are just more people out there buying ammo than there is ammo being produced." |

Evidently ignorant – or dismissive – of the meaning of “shall not be infringed” the government of Oregon Saturday put into effect a new rights-snatching statute that compels gun-owners to store firearms in safes or “safe rooms,” place trigger locks on them, and NOT take them to certain public places.
And the statute will, of course, be enforced by armed cops – paid by the taxpayers whose rights are being crushed. |

I would respectfully ask the members of the Town Council to endorse the studies being made by the CDC under the direction of Dr. Rochelle Walensky. In an interview with CNN, she said that much of the CDC's research will be engaged in understanding the root causes of gun violence. In restarting gun violence research, Walensky said she wants the CDC to find common ground with gun owners. (Search "CDC speaks out" for the complete interview.)
Your support for these studies would offer voters on both sides of the debate a more measured and less politicized approach to fact finding and the public space needed to produce meaningful improvements to the nation's epidemic of gun violence. |

“If the FBI data published in their crime report for 2020 is accurate,” he continued, “it is ample evidence that the individual right to keep and bear arms for personal defense is as important today as it was when the Second Amendment was adopted as a cornerstone of the Bill of Rights.
“The use of deadly force is not something anybody wants,” Gottlieb observed, “but neither is being injured or killed by some thug during a violent criminal attack. Self-defense may be the oldest natural right, and every time we hear some politician, public official or gun control extremist call for citizen disarmament, we have to wonder which side they’re on. It certainly can’t be on the side of public safety. |

Officers arrived and found a man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, CMPD said in a news release. Mecklenburg EMS took him to a hospital, where he’s currently being treated, police said.
Investigators said the injured person physically attacked another male passenger on the train, police said. During the attack, the passenger pulled out a gun and fired.
No charges have been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
“The shooter remained on scene and has been in full cooperation with our officers and detectives,” police Lt. Stephen Fischback said during CMPD’s weekly news conference. |

I didn't tell Kate I was going for weeks, and when I did tell her, she didn't say much. In fact, she didn't say anything. I considered cancelling, but it had been so hard to get a spot. Everyone wanted to go to gun school. The pandemic — or something worse, whatever it was that had been tearing us apart for years — was working our fear, making some of us conclude that we might have to shoot somebody soon, which is what we mean when we talk about self-defense.
My brother bought a gun and locked it in his basement. For bears, he said.
"Really?" I said. "Bears?"
"Listen," he said. "I hear people shooting here all the time." |

They make this claim even though rioters were often unimpeded as they set urban areas on fire across the country in 2020. Also, the “defund the police” movement from the Left, as well as the release of many prisoners during the pandemic, also obviously impacted the violent crime rate.
But that kind of honest policy analysis is politically unpalatable to the Biden administration.
Instead, President Joe Biden (D) likes to make the untrue argument that “gun violence has become an epidemic in America.” Even his director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Rochelle Walensky, echoed this misguided claim when she said that the CDC needs to go after the Second Amendment to “cure” this “epidemic.” |

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) this week joined Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and more than 30 other senators in urging President Biden not to support the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, which would subject Americans’ Second Amendment rights to international oversight if ratified.
“We write to you today seeking clarification on your Administration’s position on the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). Recent remarks by Deputy Director for Conventional Arms Threat Reduction, William Malzahn, seem to indicate your intention to rejoin this misguided and overbearing international treaty,” the senators wrote. |
