"Thursday's announcement by a Kent, WA attorney that he has ended his federal lawsuit against the City of Seattle's parks gun ban does not affect the on-going state-court case filed jointly by the Second Amendment Foundation and National Rifle Association."
"SAF Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb noted Friday morning that there has been some confusion about the two cases. SAF and NRA were joined by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, the Washington Arms Collectors and five individual plaintiffs in their lawsuit, which found the city's parks gun ban to be in violation of state law. That case has been appealed by the city." ... |

... "But time's up for North Carolina gun owners. They can either obey the law, and go defenseless if they have to leave their homes, or just say the hell with stupid, evil anti-defense edicts and take their chances they won't be caught and punished--providing they survive their encounter with the 'authorities'."
"Government, of course, as usual, has things exactly Bizarro-World backwards. It's when the security of a free state is imperiled that the right of the people to keep and bear arms is most necessary." ... |

"Since North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue signed Executive Order 62, declaring a State of Emergency in the face of Hurricane Earl, a debate has ensued over whether N.C.G.S. 14-288.7, which restricts transportation of 'dangerous weapons' – including firearms – applies to the many thousands of concealed handgun permit-holders, sport shooters and hunters who appear to be in violation of state law."
"Both the office of the governor and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission have issued proclamations that EO 62 does not restrict lawful gun owners and hunters. Unfortunately, both Governor Perdue and the WRC are not only wrong, but by all apearances, willfully wrong. And below you will find out why." ... -------

"The big story making the rounds in the firearms community today is Hurricane Earl and the State of Emergency that has been declared in North Carolina. As Earl continues toward a glancing blow to the Outer Banks, North Carolina Governor Beverly Purdue signed an executive order declaring a State of Emergency. Among other things, a State of Emergency in NC creates a 'gun free zone' with the following statute:" ... |

"A San Francisco transit agency spokesman says the city is investigating whether pro-gun ads, which an advocacy group recently purchased, should have been posted in transit stations this week."
"The city's policy on such ads is strict but clear: It says that 'no advertisement' shall 'promote the use of firearms.'" ...
"Second Amendment Foundation founder Alan Gottlieb says that if San Francisco takes down the advertisements, which also promote his group's gun rights policy conference in a nearby suburb, he'll see them in court: 'All I can do is pray that all the publicity will make them want to decide to take down the ads -- so we can sue!'" |

"Kent attorney Bob Warden has voluntarily dropped his federal lawsuit against the City of Seattle's city parks gun ban, a case that was a bit unusual because he was acting as his own client."
"He issued a terse statement with the notation that it would be his only statement, in which he said in part, 'Thanks in large part to the ongoing efforts of the Second Amendment Foundation, there are other cases in the pipeline around the country that are at least as well-positioned as mine to resolve this question. After careful consideration, and in support of a coordinated approach to protecting this fundamental civil right, I asked the Ninth Circuit this week to dismiss my pending appeal.'" ... |

"We have all heard the stories about how bad the Chauchat automatic rifle was."
"That it was discarded by American and French troops alike. That it was the worst machine gun ever. That it was designed by committee and made by many different contractors, requiring hand fitting of non-interchangeable parts."
"How much of this is true, and how much is myth?"
"The Chauchat M1915 CSRG was a refinement of the Chauchat CS M1911, which fired the French 8 X 50 via a long recoil system, like the Remington Model 8 rifle, Winchester Model 1911 shotgun, and Frommer STOP pistol. Simply described, it is a straight pull bolt action rifle mounted in a spring loaded tube, fed by a semi-circular magazine holding 20 rounds. ..." ... |

"In light of the double murder in a prominent California city where two 16-year-old thugs with baseball bat and knife bludgeoned an elderly couple to death after first robbing them in the hopes of acquiring more money for their frequent marijuana habits, I wonder if this tragedy may have been avoided had the victims used a gun to protect themselves. Many crime victims are also victims to our society's undying trust that if we are law-abiding others around us will be also, and those who are not will be dealt with swiftly by law enforcement. Such is naive, impossible, and a great American myth." ... |

"This may finally be the year the NRA traded in its safety goggles for rose-colored glasses. Certainly the nation's most powerful lobby group is entitled to take aim at anyone it wants. But the fact that the National Rifle Association has begun picking targets based on fantasy rather than fact says something sad about both the NRA and the state of American politics. The NRA's recent foray into the judicial confirmation process reveals that, when the subject is guns in America, legal aspirations now trump legal reality." ... |

"In a six-city fly-around, Blunt was joined by his son, former Gov. Matt Blunt, and NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre. Buckeye Firearms Association feels that elections are the most important component of firearm rights: without pro-gun legislators, prosecutors, judges and law enforcement, your fundamental right to own firearms and your fundamental right to self-defense are in constant peril."

Representative Ann Kirkpatrick today released the following statement in response to the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) and similar groups petitioning the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ban all lead ammunition:"
"'In these tough economic times, we cannot afford knee-jerk reactions like this. The ban would be a huge burden to our hunters and sportsmen, and I am concerned that this is basically an end-run around their Second Amendment rights.
