As a resident of Livingston County, and a representative of Michigan Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, I am writing to express my deep concern over the planned agenda for the upcoming Family Emergency Readiness EXPO scheduled for September 9. Along with vital emergency information being presented by law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS responders and others, an N.R.A. instructor will be speaking on “Armed Self Defense.” Expo Exhibitors will also be providing information on firearms training and concealed pistol license classes." |

A Democrat running to unseat a Republican Iowa congressman is making headlines for being prohibited from speaking to an upcoming gathering because of her foul mouth, but there is one other thing about her campaign that might set off alarms among Hawkeye State gun owners.
She is for “sensible gun reform.” An email request for clarification of what constitutes such “reform” has gone unanswered. |

Back-to-school shopping can be stressful but shoppers at a Walmart in Michigan saw that stress take a violent turn after an argument over a notebook ended with a gun being drawn. It all happened on Monday afternoon as two pairs of women were shopping in the town of Novi, near Detroit. One of them reached for the last notebook on a shelf as did another woman. That invariably led to arguments about who was the rightful owner of that precious notebook and some pushing and shoving ensued. When two women, one aged 46 and the other 32, moved on to hair pulling, the mother of the 20-year-old who was involved in the altercation pulled out a loaded gun. |

There are a lot of “gimmick” guns out there that promise Death Star-esque firepower but don’t do a lot of good in reality. People who buy them claim a practical reason, but actually bought it to say they have one. One of the worst offenders in this class of pistol are .410 revolvers. On paper, “it’s a shotgun you can concealed carry!” but in reality it’s a hulking short-barrel revolver that you can’t concealed carry very well, though there are a few companies making concealed carry revolver holsters for them. |

Last Sunday’s episode of CBS’s 60 Minutes featured a rerun of an interview with former-New York City Mayor and gun control financier Michael Bloomberg. During the interview, reporter Steve Kroft noted that Bloomberg has spent “a hundred and thirty-five million dollars to battle the NRA on gun control.” With money like this flowing from the would-be oligarch to his gun control organization Everytown for Gun Safety and other anti-gun efforts, gun rights supporters recognize that Everytown, and its subsidiaries like Moms Demand Action, are little more than a billionaire authoritarian’s attempt at political astroturfing. |

Texas is known for having some of the country’s more lax gun restrictions, being an open carry state for handguns since 2016 (with a permit) and long guns before that. Well, with a law that went into effect Friday, it’s not just firearms: Blades longer than 5.5 inches – including daggers, machetes and, yes, swords – can now be openly carried by adults in Texas, the Houston Chronicle reported earlier this week. |

Opening your doors to a child in need as a foster parent is a special calling. It takes a great deal of courage and compassion to take in a child whose life has had a troubled start. Caring, honest foster parents should be treated with the utmost respect, yet in some places in America their basic constitutional rights are being violated by overzealous rules and government bureaucrats. |
