A bowhunter in Idaho was attacked by a grizzly bear Sunday while elk hunting with a friend on public land. The bowhunter was injured but survived the attack, and officials say the two men were able to shoot and kill the adult boar with their sidearms. Conservation officers determined through an investigation that the hunters acted in self-defense, according to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. Neither hunter has been publicly identified yet.

The United States District Court for the Southern District of California (August 23, 2024) and the Supreme Judicial Court for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (August 27, 2024) reached opposite opinions on whether bladed weapons qualify as arms mentioned in the text of the Second Amendment.

Coloradans will vote on several gun-related issues come November, including the lawfulness of trophy hunting. Initiative 91 would prohibit the pursuit, entrapment, wounding, killing or discharging of a weapon at certain large cat species. This includes bobcats, lynx, and mountain lions. |

A large yellow front-end loader is still rammed into the side of a partially collapsed carport at the end of rural Waianae Valley Road. The home, which is tucked down the dead-end street surrounded by farmlands and mountains, is now the site of one of Hawaii’s deadliest shootings. The police cordon that blocked off the area after the weekend killings was gone and not a single police car was in sight in the area Tuesday afternoon.

The Second Amendment protects the right to carry a firearm for self-defense while taking public transit, a federal judge has ruled. On Friday, US District Judge Iain Johnston found a provision in Illinois’ Firearm Concealed Carry Act banning all forms of carrying a firearm on or near any public transportation facility is unconstitutional. He ruled the state failed to prove that its restriction aligned with the nation’s historical approach to firearms regulation.
