"Salt Lake Tribune columnist Jeff Clawson has just had a stroke of brilliance regarding America’s gun problem. His solution: repeal the Second Amendment."

"The Second Amendment is dead — a victim of its own making. It has been killed over and over again. It’s been dying since the mass murders at the University of Texas Clock Tower, 101 California in San Francisco, McDonalds in San Diego, Columbine, Virginia Tech, Trolley Square, Fort Hood Army Base, and now Aurora, Colo. It only remains to be declared DOA and repealed — plain and simple . . ." ...

... "Two issues ago, the front-page story in GunNews, 'Madigan’s List', provoked some strong responses from some unusual quarters. The story did not generate near the controversy that the headline and accompanying graphics did."

"The story detailed Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s decision that lists of FOID card holders should be released to the press, despite the objection of the Illinois State Police. The style of the headline evoked the movie 'Schindler’s List', a story about the Holocaust, and the graphic was of a cloth Star of David, worn by Jews under Nazi rule."

"Every group has a vocal cadre that demand compliance to their closely held beliefs as defined by their collective. In the AR-15 realm we have the mil-spec junkies. These folks have their short list of approved manufacturers and the moment a new company dares to come into existence they pounce to question every minute detail of the materials and processes used to manufacture the interloper’s new wares. Often times the criticisms leveled against the manufacturer’s products will be centered on compliance to military specifications. Ironically, most who cite the military specs for rifles such as the AR15/M16 have never read the actual specifications or even know where to find them. ..." ...

"How far do you feel comfortable shooting your pistol? Three yards? Seven? Twenty-five? What if I told you that it’s very possible to accurately shoot most standard caliber pistols out to ranges as far as 100 yards? Think I’m nuts? Think I’ve sniffed a bit too much gun powder today? I won’t dispute either of the preceding allegations, but I will tell you that you can consistently hit a chest-sized steel plate at distances of 100 yards or more using your standard pistol. To be honest, I didn’t think it was possible myself, but then I decided to give the SIG Sauer Academy’s half day Long Range Pistol Shooting Class a try . . ." ...

"There’s something to be said for using teeny tiny bullets zipping along amazingly fast for taking out small game. Especially when your target is similarly zipping across the field in front of you, being able to hit that moving target is made much easier with faster rounds. Varmint hunters have known this for ages, and that knowledge has popularized calibers such as the .204 Ruger and .223 Remington (the lightweight versions) for small game. "As I sit here at my desk examining (read: ogling) the ACOG model TA31RCO-M150CP that Trijicon was kind enough to entrust me with, my first impression is…ruggedness. The kind I was previously unaware existed in rifle optics. While the glass on the scope clearly isn’t up to Zeiss standards ... it’s very bright for such a compact sight. I’d place the brightness on par with a 30mm Leupold Mark V. The field of view at 100 yards is a very generous 36.8 feet which provides a good balance of situational awareness and precision. The scope feels not only idiot- but also soldier- proof. Don’t get me wrong with that statement — soldiers aren’t dumb, but if there’s a surefire way to break something, they’re the ones who will figure it out . . ." ...

"'Since last Thursday, at least 103 people have been wounded, which includes those dead, in Chicago from gun violence,' chicago.cbslocal.com reports. Ascribing the body count to 'gun violence' makes it sound like the victims were struck down by some kind of ballistic cancer. From there it’s a short step to calling guns the killer cells creating this 'disease.' In fact, gun violence is people shooting people. In Chicago it’s mostly African-American people shooting African-American people late at night/early in the morning over something to do with drugs. Which makes it alright. For the politicians, anyway . . ." ...

"In an earlier post I flagged the issue of disarmament and racial politics in Chicago. I highlighted the fact that Windy City gangbanger gunfire was largely restricted to the city’s less affluent (read: black) neighborhoods. TTAG reader ST asserted that 'there’s a little bit of violent crime in *every* part of Chicago. The thugs who shoot each other on the south side don’t care enough about the northern enclaves to start trouble, but there’s plenty of crooks to keep things equally lively everywhere.' Reading Gun violence impacts Pill Hill: 'We don’t have that kind of stuff' [via chicagotribune.com] it certainly seems so . . ." ...
