Which political party wants to take your guns?

I hadn’t thought about that question until the last election. Sure, I’d seen the usual campaign photographs of political candidates wearing hunter-orange and carrying a long gun. That picture changed when Secretary Hillary Clinton said the NRA was her enemy. Now I’ve looked at the data.

The Democrats are out to disarm us. See for yourself.

A judge is set to soon decide the fate of a former St. Louis police officer accused of intentionally killing a 24-year-old black man and planting a gun as evidence to justify the fatal shooting. The ex-officer, Jason Stockley, 36, is facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of Anthony Lamar Smith in an on-duty shooting in December 2011. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department this week surrounded the courthouse and police headquarters with barricades in anticipation of protests, should Stockley be acquitted.

The M1911 pistol market continues to expand at a rate that defies easy explanation. Today, an example of this classic firearm can be purchased from almost every major handgun manufacturer. And while entry-level .45s still exist, most M1911s today come with a variety of cosmetic or functional upgrades, and the biggest trend is for firms to build high-end versions, right from scratch.

One of the things that can be confusing to hunters is the variety of bullets available and trying to decide which is best. Ammunition companies and businesses that sell reloading products like to give names to their bullets that grab the buyers' attention. Grand Slam, Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, Deep Curl, Hot-Cor, Ballistic Tip, Spitzer, Accubond, Partition, Spire Point, Scirocco, TTSX, and Core-Lokt are just a few examples of what is being advertised for the hunter each year.

Orange County resident Marty Dufek said Imperial Valley is a great place to hunt dove. “There’s a lot of doves here. And we’ve been coming here for years,” Dufek said. He said planning and patience are vital in successful hunting as he laid down his 11 birds on Sunday morning at a field south of Brawley. The limit is 15 doves per day. “You come out the day before and you stake out a good spot where the fly-zone is. And then you get up early. And just wait for them to fly over,” Dufek said.

Disturbing video of a Washington State motorcyclist’s Aug. 16 confrontation with a King County Sheriff’s detective who approached with a drawn gun and did not immediately identify himself has gone viral and raised public second-guessing to a fever pitch.

When the Sheriff’s Department finally saw the video on Aug. 28, the detective was immediately placed on leave, and according to Sheriff John Urquhart, an investigation has been launched. Urquhart spoke to Liberty Park Press Tuesday, explaining that stopping someone for reckless driving typically doesn’t, nor shouldn’t, involve a drawn sidearm.

The Second Amendment Foundation and Calguns Foundation and two individual plaintiffs today filed a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court for certiorari in the case of Silvester, et.al. v. California Attorney General Zavier Becarra. The case challenges California's 10-day waiting period law and seeks to overturn a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that essentially forces a gun owner to endure another waiting period to purchase another firearm even though he is licensed to carry and has already passed a background check.
