Every time the right kind of shooter (a white guy who isn't living in Chicago, Baltimore or Detroit) shoots people, Democrats and the media howl that something must be done. Action must be taken. Laws must be passed.
The something, the action and the laws suspend the Bill of Rights and never actually punish the killer, but random people whose only crime is owning a gun |

A Texas woman shot at two suspected robbers, wounding one, early Tuesday morning when they allegedly reached into her car to grab her purse.
Lachelle Hudgins had just parked outside her home in southwest Houston around 2:30 a.m. when the suspected robbers reached through her driver’s side window, according to KTRK-TV. She told police several other men were also near her parking space.
Hudgins grabbed her gun from her purse and fired the only two shots left in her gun, hitting one of the men.
All of the men ran away when Hudgins fired and the wounded man was found a short time later on the other side of the apartment complex.
He underwent surgery and is expected to face aggravated robbery charges, KTRK reported. |

Perhaps law-enforcement and politicians should analyze these shootings as Live Practice Drills to see what the common elements are, and to see what they can do to minimize the occurrence of these horrible events.
Recently, even a location (Gilroy Garlic Festival in Northern CA) that had a fence and metal detector weapons screening for attendees became a non-gun-free-zone when a criminal cut through a portion of the fence and entered with a rifle. Even with a security and police presence, he managed to kill three and wound thirteen.
So much for signs and fences. |

The Texas Department of Public Safety really is playing with fire by selling guns to its own employees, who then can resell them for profit. The last thing DPS and Texas need is for a gun to leave the agency, only to then be used in a crime.
The agency has sold more than 5,200 guns to its own employees over the past three years. Under state law, police officers leaving their departments are allowed to buy a single service weapon, often as a memento. DPS lets its retiring troopers buy as many as three: a single service weapon and two guns the department is retiring. |

Walmart's highly controversial decision to change gun and ammo sale policies is expected to hit local economies with a perhaps unexpected impact.
The retail giant is not only stopping the sales of certain ammunition but discouraging customers from openly carrying in their stores.
As the nation's biggest retailer, these changes come in response to the wave of recent mass shootings across our country, including one last month in El Paso, Texas that killed 22 people in a Walmart store. |

Prosecutors have decided not to charge a Maryland homeowner who killed a man he thought was trying to break into his house.
Charles Dorsey acted in self-defense during a perceived home intrusion in July, State’s Attorney Rich Gibson said Tuesday.
News outlets reported that Gerardo “Gary” Espinoza was a guest at a pool party next door when he began banging on the door of Dorsey’s Woodbine home at 1 a.m. |

An early morning shooting in Grantsville left one man injured and another under arrest, but not in connection with the shooting, according to police.
About 4 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to a report of shots fired at a mobile home park, 520 W. Clark St., said Grantsville police officer Cody Painter. Officers arrived to find a man lying in the road with a gunshot wound. |

The fastest way to trend on Twitter, and not in a good way, is to say that the right to bear arms is a God-given right.
Texas state Rep. Matt Schaefer established this beyond a doubt in a Twitter thread in the immediate aftermath of the West Texas shooting spree. He said that he wouldn’t use “the evil acts of a handful of people to diminish the God-given rights of my fellow Texans.”
Progressives were aghast at Schaefer’s sentiment, and when actress Alyssa Milano questioned how he possibly could defend it, Texas Senator Ted Cruz jumped in to support Schaefer’s argument (in less obnoxious terms). |
