"While today’s Seattle Times alerts readers that more than 300 pot stores could spring up around Washington – a few days after the Justice Department said it will not challenge legalized pot laws here or in Colorado – a progressive journal is sneering at the notion that Missouri gun owners want to ignore federal gun laws by way of a state statute."

"Taking advantage of the media attention around the swearing-in of B. Todd Jones as the new director of the [ATF], the Obama administration announced two executive actions aimed at appeasing gun control groups and asserting executive authority. Ostensibly intended to 'curb gun violence,' the measures are even more unlikely to have an impact on crime, suicide, or accidents than most of the proposals we see from the anti-rights crowd. The first proposal deals with the re-importation of U.S.-made, World War II era firearms – guns that have never been common in crime and are prized collectors’ items today. The second proposal deals with the application process for owning items regulated under the [NFA] ..." ... |

"I lived in NYC for half of my life. I was born, raised and educated there. I got all of my scars and stitches there from street and gang fights. Gangs in my time were more like the ones in West Side Story; neighborhood kids who banded together to keep the neighborhood safe and engage in typical juvenile trouble. Unfortunately, other neighborhoods had gangs too and enjoyed encroaching on other’s territory."
"I would guess that today many would be shocked to hear of an 8 year old who carried a switch blade knife and kept a hidden zip gun; given the state of affairs, perhaps not. "American essayist and civil rights leader James A. Baldwin once quipped, 'The most dangerous creation of any society is the man who has nothing to lose.' This poignant reflection of a man in the forefront what appeared at the time to be a seemingly impossible movement for racial equality, once may have served as a warning to the government that it should fear the people it oppresses. Today, however, Baldwin’s statement serves as a warning to citizens that the real object of their fear should be politicians no longer facing the risk of reelection. President Barack Obama, now comfortably ensconced in his second term, is a man with nothing to lose -- and citizens have good reason to be worried." ... |
