Some might argue that the heyday of the over/under shotgun is a thing of the past, but given recent industry trends, such a statement would be patently untrue. Numerous manufacturers, large and small, have put new over/under scatterguns on dealers’ shelves within the past few years. What many of those new releases have in common are price tags probably on par with your monthly mortgage payment. While that’s all well and good—a firearm is, after all, an investment—it still leaves some hunters and clay shooters feeling put out.

Veto Gunmageddon, a group of California gun owners formed this summer to oppose both recently signed and proposed California gun laws, is finding strong support in Calaveras County. According to group members, the California Legislature “bypassed normal procedure to pass strict and clearly unconstitutional gun laws.” That’s a reference to gun laws signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in July, including Assembly Bills 1135, 1511, 1695 and 857 and Senate Bills 880 and 1446. |

The Second Amendment is not “in danger.” It has already been gravely wounded. This election season, there has been a lot of talk about the future of the Second Amendment. Some say that this election could mean the “death” of the Second. Concerns of its further degradation in the hands of a hostile Supreme Court are legitimate. However, this creates the wrong frame for the discussion.

Hundreds of Bay Area gun enthusiasts got in their parting shots on Monday’s final day of operations for the Chabot Gun Club, a fixture at Anthony Chabot Regional Park for more than 52 years. The East Bay Regional Park District’s directors voted unanimously in March to close the 65-acre gun club, saying the range could not afford to pay the costs of meeting stricter environmental standards governing the cleanup of lead contamination from spent bullets. |

Shouldn’t journalists who want to tackle the issues related to illegal use of guns in America, and thereby help us find real solutions to violent crime in places like Chicago’s South Side, start by being honest? John Lott thinks so. It is this principled position that caused him to agree, despite his prior experiences, to be interviewed for Katie Couric’s film “Under The Gun.” As an expert on these issues, he hoped to offer some perspective and balance. Although he says he went into the interview like a person readying himself to be grilled by a prosecutor, even he was surprised at what happened after he left the four-hour-long interview with Couric.

This leads us to Madison of course where a Milwaukee State Representative tells us he senses compromise in the air. But will be there consensus in Washington? Here is my conversation with a congressman who's been serving Wisconsin's 5th district since 1979 Republican Jim Sensenbrenner. Michele McCormack: State Representative Evan Goyke, Democrat from Milwaukee what do you make when you hear people say Wisconsin is one of those states that is run by the gun lobby?

Neighbors’ fears of errant arrows and bullets have suburban officials concerned about the safety of an expanding gun club and an archery range in proximity to parks, trails and homes. Sports enthusiasts, however, said the facilities in South St. Paul and Chanhassen are already safe — and that they can’t afford to lose outdoor practice facilities when shooting and archery are becoming more popular.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Some of the worst abuses of government force in recent years were precipitated by technical and victimless gun-law violations. For example, the BATF claimed that the Branch Davidians possessed machine guns without paying the required federal tax and filling in the proper registration forms. So a tax case worth less than $10,000 led to a 76-man helicopter, machine gun, and grenade assault on a home in which 2/3 of the occupants were women and children. — Dave Kopel and Dr. Michael S.
