efore Donald Trump had even won last year’s presidential election, Gun Owners of America, one of the country’s most aggressive second amendment champions, saw an opportunity to use the coming budget bill to overturn one of the country’s core gun laws. Their target: the National Firearms Act.
Passed in 1934 in response to gangster-era crime, the NFA imposed registration and a $200 tax on machine guns, silencers, and short-barreled rifles and shotguns. The tax roughly equaled nearly $5,000 back then, acting as a de facto ban for most would-be buyers. |

The state civil suit, which was brought McGrath's father Kevin against Ronald and Stacie Rich in 2024, was withdrawn Thursday “without costs to any party,” according to a filing from Michael J. Rosnick, an attorney representing the McGrath family.
McGrath was stabbed on the night of May 14, 2022 during a fight outside a home on Laurel Glen Drive. Raul Valle, a St. Joseph High School student at the time of the fight, was charged with murder in McGrath’s death, but was acquitted in July after claiming self-defense. |

Over the last 24 hours, multiple media outlets (among them the Washington Times and CNN) have reported that Trump administration officials are considering whether and how to ban transgendered individuals from purchasing firearms. Using the late August tragic mass shooting spree by Robin Westman in Minneapolis as an excuse to try to deny a basic constitutional right to law-abiding citizens is just the latest, and definitely the most crass, assault on individual rights contemplated by President Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi. |

News of a potential plan from Donald Trump’s administration to block transgender Americans from owning firearms was met with an avalanche of opposition — including from major Second Amendment groups historically aligned with Republicans.
The National Rifle Association, among the nation’s largest and most influential lobbying groups, said “the Second Amendment isn’t up for debate.”
“The NRA supports the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans to purchase, possess and use firearms,” the group said in a statement Friday.
“NRA does not, and will not, support any policy proposals that implement sweeping gun bans that arbitrarily strip law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights without due process,” ... |

The Second Amendment is crystal clear: “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Yet Bill No. 36-0144, now under consideration in the U.S. Virgin Islands, does exactly that. Gun Owners of America (GOA) stands firmly against this unconstitutional—and yes, racist—piece of legislation that targets the rights of ordinary, law-abiding citizens.
At hearings before the Committee on Homeland Security, Justice, and Public Safety, Senator Clifford Joseph, Sr. and other backers tried to sell this bill as “responsible” and “life-saving.” They even claimed it respects the Constitution. |

New Hampshire is joining 24 other states in urging the U.S. Supreme Court to take up a challenge to Massachusetts' gun licensing laws, arguing the restrictions are unconstitutional.
Earlier this year, Massachusetts' highest court ruled that residents from other states must comply with the Commonwealth's firearm licensing requirements, even if they legally purchased their guns elsewhere. The decision came after two cases where New Hampshire residents who purchased guns legally were charged with unlawful possession in Massachusetts. |

The Justice Department is drawing swift condemnation from gun rights groups and LGBTQ advocates alike after floating that it was considering restricting transgender people from owning guns — a move that would all but certainly face immediate constitutional challenges if ever implemented.
The discussions come in the wake of the shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school last month that federal officials have said was carried out by a transgender shooter, according to a person familiar with the matter. The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, cautioned that the talks were in the early stages and that no proposal has been finalized. |

One of the oldest and most basic rights guaranteed by the Constitution is the right of American citizens to travel from one state into another. The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that states are forbidden from interfering with this right by treating nonresidents and new arrivals less favorably than their own citizens. But Massachusetts forbids nonresidents from carrying a firearm for self-defense on pain of a felony conviction and a minimum of eighteen months in prison—even though the Constitution protects the right of all Americans to carry arms outside the home for self-defense. |

The Department of Justice is reportedly exploring regulations that could deprive transgender individuals of their right to bear arms, raising significant concerns about the implications for personal safety and self-defense within vulnerable communities. This potential action suggests a troubling shift in policy regarding firearm access for marginalized groups, which many see as a direct threat to their security.
Critics argue that such a ban not only undermines the constitutional rights of trans people but also places them at greater risk by limiting their ability to protect themselves. |

Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz announced on Tuesday plans to hold a special legislative session to introduce new statewide gun control measures, including a ban on "assault weapons." This comes in the wake of last week's tragic mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, which left 21 injured and 2 dead.
Despite assurances that the proposals would not infringe upon Second Amendment rights, Walz's proposed measures raise significant constitutional concerns. In addition to a ban, Walz proposed a law that would mandate stricter standards for safe storage, increased funding for mental health treatment, and further expansion of Minnesota's 2023 red flag laws. |

For years, the Right has desperately sought a way to respond to mass shootings. They wanted an answer, any answer that was not the blatantly obvious answer and the only thing we all know would work — gun control. They’ve tried “Thoughts and prayers and don’t politicize it!” They’ve tried “More guns, actually! Guns for school teachers! In the classroom! Where the children are!” They’ve tried “It’s about mental health, which we also don’t want to do anything about or put any money towards fixing!”
Literally anything to avoid the obvious. |

The National Rifle Association is pushing back on a weapons ban for transgender Americans that the Justice Department is reportedly considering.
The discussions among senior officials in the department are centered around last week’s fatal shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis by 23-year-old Robin Westman, who was reportedly born male but identified as female. The potential weapons ban was first reported by the Daily Wire on Thursday and later confirmed by CNN and other outlets.

A three-judge panel of the Tenth Circuit has ruled that machine guns are not protected by the Second Amendment – reinstating a federal indictment and reversing a lower court dismissal. As Stephen Gutowski reports at The Reload, the panel concluded the government can continue enforcing the federal ban on post-1986 machine guns because the weapons at issue are not “in common use” for self-defense. Mark W. Smith, a constitutional attorney and host of the Four Boxes Diner channel, calls the decision “good news” for purely strategic reasons – though he sharply criticizes the court’s legal reasoning. |
