" 'Sen. John F. Kerry of Massachusetts gets a Labor Day goose egg from the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA),' John Michael Snyder, CCRKBA public affairs director, announced here this morning."

"Snyder, named dean of gun lobbyists by national media, said the Democratic presidential nominee 'can add this zero award to his collection of Purple Hearts and band aids.' He added that the senator 'truly is a first class hypocrite. In recent months, he's been going around the country trying to cater to pro-gun rights voters, proclaiming that, 'I am a gun owner and a hunter and I respect the Second Amendment,' BUT, 'I've never contemplated shooting a deer with an AK-47.' Rabbi Boteach had a conversation with Michael Moore at the Republican National Convention. During their conversation about Israel, Moore admitted that he had visited Israel twice. What did he find?

"After I made Bowling for Columbine, I discovered that Israel has one of the lowest levels of violence -- I mean, besides the conflict with the Palestinians -- even though there are so many guns around."

Will this change Moore's stand on guns?

"In less than two weeks, the Federal Assault Weapons Act expires. I don't know about you, but keeping AK-47s, Uzis and TEC-9s off our streets seems like a good idea to me. In fact, according to a New York Times/Wall Street Journal poll, fully 78 percent of my fellow Americans agree."

KABA Note: Fortunately, what you and your fellow sheep think is completely irrelevant. We do not live in a democracy where the whims of the cowardly and uninformed enslave the rest of us.

"According to data maintained by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, assault weapons are 20 times more likely to be used in a crime than conventional firearms. ..."

KABA Note: Actually they're used in less than two percent of crimes. Someone needs to learn how to read data.

"When the law was passed, 16 percent of gun murders of police officers were with assault weapons. ..."

KABA Note: No they were not. The LEOKA data does not differentiate between the type of rifle used.

"As effective as the ban has been, a simple renewal may not be enough. ..."

KABA Note: According to your pal Tom Diaz of the VPC, the ban has done nothing.

"Without strengthening the assault-weapons ban, or at a least renewing it, our security is threatened. ..."

KABA Note: In 1994 you were 11 times more likely to be beaten to death than killed by the weapons you so fear. In fact, these weapons were used in less than 2 percent of crimes BEFORE the ban was enacted.

In other words, this woman has no clue.

It's sad that one set of individuals with admittedly dangerous professions just received carte blanche to exercise their Second Amendment rights everywhere in the country, while another set of individuals with equally, if not more dangerous professions must still beg the state for permission to arm themselves.

"In 2001, a whopping 29,573 people were killed by firearms in the U.S., with another 63,000 injured." ...

Note: Notice this buffoon does not differentiate between suicide, self defense or criminal on criminal violence.

"Believe it or not, those totals are down considerably from a decade before -- leading some, such as mouthpieces for the National Rifle Association, to rejoice at the sprightly news."

Note: That's right. Meanwhile the gun control utopias of England and Australia have experienced an unprecedented upsurge in crime. How could that be? Guns are tightly controlled there!

"In that same year, Canada recorded 842 gun deaths." ...

"Whatever's said about this country's undoubtedly cost-bloated gun control program, it's likely to have a chilling effect on weapons ownership that'll prevent us from reaching America's heights of firearms carnage."

Note: Sure. Because criminals always register their weapons, right?

"According to state reports from Florida, California and a number of other states, before the 1994 gun ban was put in place, assault weapons were used in approximately 2 to 3 percent of all crimes. A police chief in New Jersey said that his men were more likely to face a tiger on the street than a criminal with an assault rifle. The National Institute of Justice and the Justice Department recently completed a study in which they could find no correlation between the assault weapon ban and crime reduction. With these facts in mind, Mr. Blakley's claim that assault weapon-related crime was reduced is meaningless."
