"We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex will say anything to further their goal of eliminating firearms from private ownership. ... Still, it’s nice when the numbers they shout at the top of their lungs can be exposed as the fragrant cowpies they really are. Case in point: Colorado’s first month under their new all-gun-sales-require-a-background-check law. In the MAIG-fired run-up to the Centennial State’s vote and ultimate adoption of the new background check law, anti-gunners threw around the laughable stat that 40% of all gun sales happen between private individuals and, therefore, avoid NICS checks. The reality, however . . ." ... |

"The pro-gun organization ;Gun Rights Across America; is calling on the nation to show its support for the Second Amendment on Saturday, Oct. 19, by asking law-abiding citizens to have mini gun-rights rallies in their own front yards."
"'We want you to strap on a holstered handgun to your hip, and give one hour of your day to making our presence as law abiding gun owners known,' the GRAA Facebook page reads."
"'Feel free to hold up signs in your yards for the passing motorists. ...' the GRAA Facebook page continues. 'Pass out candy or lemonade to the kids riding their bikes, and playing in the neighborhoods.'"

"Virginians take note! Democratic Virginia gubernatorial hopeful Terry McAuliffe, who has an “F” rating from the National Rifle Association, recently met with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg in an effort to get support from the billionaire politician, Politico reports. Whether McAuliffe is looking for an endorsement or just a cash infusion, it doesn’t take a lot of imagination to come up with the other half of the quid pro quo going on there. . ." ... |

"Bad guys are becoming more bold and aggressive. Understanding that valuable items and softer targets are more likely located in more affluent areas they are increasingly targeting suburban homes and neighborhoods in historically low crime areas. As with most things the sage Boy Scout motto of 'Be Prepared' applies.""1. Plan it, drill it. Everyone remembers the fire drills that were practiced in elementary school. The alarm bell sounded and a swarm of generally chaotic creatures with an inclination for ignoring direction suddenly fell into line and moved to a predetermined point of safety with precise exaction. In the same vein, create a simple plan to move everyone living in your house to a pre-determined point of safety ..." ... |

"The SIG Sauer Academy’s Bullets and Bandages class is one of their crossover courses intended to give participants training in more than one specialty. It was developed and is currently taught by Kerry 'Pocket Doc' Davis of Dark Angel Medical and is based on his popular two-day Tactical Aid Course. Both courses share the same curriculum for the first two days, but Bullets and Bandages adds a live fire component on the third day which enables the students to appreciate the difference it makes when attempting to perform trauma care in a live fire environment . . ." ... |

"Scouring the web for ballistic grist for this blogging mill, I come across plenty of perspectives on armed self-defense. I’m pleased to report there’s not a lot of bad advice out there. Maintain situational awareness, lock your doors and windows, practice self-defense techniques—it’s all good. Well, most of it. itstactical.com offers a list of tips for Americans who’d really rather not be the subject of a home invasion and, if they are, prefer to be prepared. One of their bullet points (under 'Skill Sets') was not like the others: 'Don’t open carry if allowed. Why show all your cards if you have the option of concealed carry?' So, let’s get into it . . ." ... |

"We focus on Trayvon's Law, one section at a time. This is Part 2 of 6 parts in which members of Support the Dream Defenders clarify the purposes and methods of Trayvon's Law. Our focus here is on repealing Stand-Your-Ground laws."
"As a part of my becoming more politically active after the first election of Barack Obama, I came here. Liked the slogan, and I could hang out on the computer. I have learned a lot. This site continues to advocate for democratic causes like improving the criminal injustice system. To make justice for all, not justice for some. Recent seminal events included the death of Trayvon Martin ... but today I want to talk about the repeal of Stand Your Ground in Florida as part of Trayvon's law ..." ... |

"There is an opinion abroad in the land that the right to bear arms is unlimited, an absolute right, like the right to vote or the right to a fair trial."
"This heartfelt conviction has surfaced lately in state legislation that attempts to nullify federal gun regulations. For the nullifiers, and many others, the broadest possible right to bear arms is purportedly enshrined in the 2nd Amendment and recognized in the Supreme Court case Heller vs. District of Columbia." ... -------
Submitter's Note: You're half right: The unfettered right to keep and bear arms is protected by the Second Amendment, but it was ignored by the court in the Heller secision. |

"Yes, you can definitely (and reasonably) criticize Sung Ho Cho for riding his bike in New York’s Ft. Washington Park after dark. But he’s a New Yorker with all of the rights and privileges pertaining thereto. And in exchange, he’d apparently bought into the Bloomberg/Kelly party line that the police are there to protect you, which means you have no need to carry a firearm. After all, they’re always only minutes away. What can possibly happen in that short a time? According to nydailynews.com, 'Cho was riding on the Hudson River Greenway near W. 164th St. after sunset on Aug. 24 when he was sent flying to the ground by a clothesline that thieves had set up between two trees.' . . ." ... |

"Colorado will hold its first-ever recall elections for a state official on Tuesday, as residents head to the polls to decide the fates of Sens. John Morse (D) and Angela Giron (D)."
"Morse ... is facing a recall due to his role in passing a package of gun control legislation as emergency measures. Giron is the target of a recall for her support of the three-bill package, two of which she sponsored. Morse faces Bernie Herpin (R), a former member of the Colorado Springs City Council. George Rivera (R), Giron’s opponent, served as Deputy Chief of the Pueblo Police Department and worked in that agency for thirty-four years. Both recall campaigns have survived multiple legal challenges, and now the matter will finally be put to a vote." ... |

"S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley’s law enforcement agency has been breaking state law for months by failing to renew concealed weapons permits (CWPs) for Palmetto State gun owners."
"Really … it’s true. And as a direct result of her administration’s negligence and incompetence, thousands of law-abiding South Carolina gun owners are seeing their Second Amendment rights denied."

"Another Colorado Democrat has stoked the state’s raging gun-control debate by challenging the argument that guns are needed for self-defense."
"Colorado House Majority Leader Dickey Lee Hullinghorst said in an interview on YouTube last week that firearms ownership is redundant because the state Legislature keeps citizens safe from harm."
"'As a woman, I have the right not to carry a gun and to feel safe on the streets, and that’s what we provide for in the state Legislature is for all of us in the state of Colorado — to feel safe on the streets without having to carry a gun,' said Mrs. Hullinghorst on 'The Tim Caffrey Show.'"

"As an avid outdoorsman and legal gun owner, I commend Sheriff Christopher Moss on his stance regarding the NY SAFE Act and our Second Amendment rights."
"As these issues arose within our state, Moss was quick to research and educate himself on the new law and to listen to his constituents regarding their concerns for such a questionable law. I was impressed with the sheriff’s willingness to address our concerns in a variety of public meetings. It was evident the sheriff was well prepared and knowledgeable on the issues at hand, and he answered everyone’s questions." ... |

"Let me be clear at the onset of this opinion piece – Joline Gutierrez Krueger’s two columns regarding her self-defense plight could be construed as fraudulent."
"I recall Gutierrez Krueger’s original Albuquerque Journal column in which she claimed she had finally purchased a handgun for self-defense – and I recall at the time thinking to myself, 'Yeah, right.'"
