Confiscation Of Weapons In Louisiana (blog)

... "No wonder the rescue efforts were delayed. No wonder the thugs were let out. The situation was allowed to deteriorate so officials would be able to cite unexpected changed conditions as an excuse to break their word and confiscate weapons as a dress rehearsal for other communities. This is not good. Where the hell were the conservatives in looking out for the individual?"

"To protect the community and our way of life, armed citizens are the most effective modality. Police can be overwhelmed and the people have an interest in defending their homes and their community as a whole. When facing a thug, the people have a very good idea of who is law-abiding and who isn’t ..." ...

"I have just finished reading an overview of a report, 'PAX/Real Solutions to Gun Violence,' claiming that the vast majority of parents don't have a clue about gun safety."

"According to the report, 72 percent of parents with loaded guns in the home believed that their children didn't know the location of the 'family gun' while 80 percent of the children actually knew exactly where the gun was hidden."

"The report even urges parents to ask other parents if they have guns in their homes before letting their children go visit their friends to play. If my parents had barred me from playing at friends' homes in which guns were present, I'd have been stuck at home throughout my youth." ...

"You never know how a gun review is going to turn out until it's finished. Sometimes projects run smoothly from start to finish. Other times they start out slick but get sticky somewhere along the way. Well, my review of Marlin's brand-new .17 Mach2 Model 717M2 semiautomatic rifle started out rough but ended up really smooth."

"This project was green-lighted when Wayne Holt and Steve Johnson of Hornady contacted Shooting Times to see if we wanted to get our hands on one of the very first Marlin autoloaders chambered for the .17 Mach2 rimfire cartridge. ST readers want to read the most up-to-date information on the newest guns, so we jumped at the chance to get the exclusive report on this new rifle. ..." ...

"According to e-safes.com, storing your guns in a gun safe is an easy way to prevent a tragic accident in your home. Safes also keep your guns away from thieves, and the cost of buying a safe is cheaper than the lawyer bills if your guns end up in the wrong hands."

"Gun safes made of steel are the best, but there are different types of steel available. More steel and higher quality steel equals stronger protection. However, attaching a thick-steeled safe to the floor is more difficult because it is hard to drill holes through the thick steel." ...

"The decision, recommended two weeks ago by a hearing officer, was made official Tuesday after it was upheld by two members of the Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole." ...

"'I'm terribly disappointed,' said Nashville attorney David Raybin, who wrote the board on Evans's behalf. 'I think Mr. Evans did what he had to do to save his own life. To me it just sends a bad message when somebody can't even defend himself when they're kidnapped. I don't know what other choice Mr. Evans would have had, given that situation.'" ...

... "The social lessons that will be learned from the fallout of Hurricane Katrina are going to be vast in scope. Although this tragedy has only begun to be understood, it is now clear to every American that even in our great land there exists the potential for a time in which law-abiding human beings may only have themselves to count on for protection." ...

"Just as they have in New Orleans, when plagued with rising violent crime rates, Ohio's city governments continue to misplace their focus on limiting the rights of law-abiding citizens. As such, whether it be tornadoes, blizzard or blackouts, the potential for New Orleans-style chaos is being made more possible in the Buckeye State, and citizens who ignore that potential are just as irresponsible as were those citizens in the Big Easy who chose not to respond to the evacuation order."

A man from San Gwann was fined Lm200, after a court ruled out he acted in self-defence when he fired a gun.

A court was told that Jamie Caruana, 27 had meant to frighten a gang of men but not hurt them when fired the gun 'up the road' rather than at the gang.

On July 10, 2002, five men went to Caruana's house for an explanation for the sudden death of dog which was under his custody. The accused explained that the dog was given to him on the condition that it should be returned if Caruana was not able to take care of it. The dog died of natural causes. He said he was frightened and fired the gun to scare the men.

The court ruled out that Caruana acted in self-defence

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As I have stood in the crosshairs of those who target Second Amendment freedoms, I've realized that firearms are not the only issue. No, it's much, much bigger than that. I've come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated. — Charlton Heston
