"The House Judiciary Committee is getting ready to vote on H.R. 1415 -- a gun grab bill that was introduced by New York anti-gun liberal Carolyn McCarthy (D)."
"The anti-gun forces are asking their members to call their Representatives in favor of McCarthy's bill, so it's important that your Congressman hears from you."
"Moreover, GOA is the only gun lobby on Capitol Hill opposing McCarthy's bill -- which is all the more reason that your action is crucial!" ... |

"The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: 'A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.'"
"What does this mean? Does it mean guns should be readily available on demand? Should we not be concerned about the proliferation of guns and the disconcerting rise of urban violence because of the Second Amendment?"
"Unfortunately, too many members of the National Rifle Association believe the Second Amendment is absolute, thus, all arms should be legal."
"With the current spike in urban violence it is fair question ask is there a correlation between gun availability and escalating murder rates? ..." [link added] ... |

It comes with tiny bullets designed especially for the weapon that can penetrate skin. Even in its holster, this gun is so small that law enforcement experts say it could pass for a keychain ornament." ...

"The author of Tuesday’s letter ('Attending Virginia Tech is always a privilege,' CT, Sept. 5) states, '... those who see their rights as being violated have absolutely failed to recognize that university policy ... is clearly indicated ...' Yet he clearly has stated that the Second Amendment protects (not grants) the right to keep and bear arms, which the amendment prohibits any infringement — period. Being an inalienable right, however, no one can, by any clause, abrogate such a right — especially if it receives public money, and therefore to some extent part of the government, even if only indirectly. ..." ... |

"The letters and editorials concerning gun control in the wake of the William Morva incident have missed a number of fundamental issues. One author suggested that had we allowed students to possess guns, the William Morva incident would not have posed a threat to students. I would suggest that if the sheriff deputy guarding Morva had not possessed a gun, Morva would never have become an armed fugitive in the first place. This serves to highlight what might have happened had students possessed guns in addition to law enforcement." ... |

"There are some things that need to be clarified about the handgun issue. First, I realize that my attendance at Virginia Tech is voluntary and I have read the student policy. Again, that is my responsibility, and one that I have undertaken. Among other voluntary choices I have made are living in Virginia and the U.S. 'Love it or leave it,' is not a reasonable response to my request to have the same rights afforded to all other citizens of Virginia. Virginia is a 'shall issue' state, interpreting the state constitution as affording citizens the right to self-defense via a handgun. You can present the at-will idea all you want, but the will and laws of the commonwealth should bind the university, as it is a state institution." ... |

"The new and supposedly improved version of the United Nations' focus on international human rights has hit the headlines again, in a startling manner. Reports bubbling up through the bureaucracy of the Human Rights Council, as it now is called, are addressing the supposed problem of so-called small arms _ the term that bureaucrats use for rifles and handguns. An astounding report by the world body's Special Rapporteur on the subject has gone far overboard. It suggests that it ought to be global policy that neither nations nor their citizens have the right of self-defence. It is difficult to imagine a more obscure and tortuous route to reach the apparent goal of the Special Rapporteur, which is a ban on small arms." ... |
