At 24 years old, my daughter, Jessi, was sparky, beautiful, and ambitious, with red hair that mirrored her fiery spirit. In summer 2012, she was finishing her final year of college in Colorado and looking forward to pursuing a career as a sports journalist. On the night before she had an interview for a dream job, she went with her close friend Brent to a midnight movie.

Ed.: That's what happens when you file merit-less malicious lawsuits--you have to pay for your tort.

In anger and pain, he lashed out at someone who was not responsible, in any way, for the evil act of another, and now he decries the consequences. Would he sue the hardware store if his daughter had been killed with a hammer? ...a sporting goods shop if she'd been beaten with a baseball bat?

Emotional pain is a good motivator for action, but the action must be logical, rational, and just. Justice is never served by allocating responsibility for evil acts to the innocent.
