Give ‘Smart Guns’ a Chance to Save Lives

This month, a 6-year-old playing “cops and robbers” shot his 3-year-old brother in the face with a gun that his father kept wrapped in pajamas on top of the refrigerator. The boy died, one moe than 2,500 gunshot victims in Chicago so far this year, more than 415 of whom died. With Congress unwilling to act to curb gun violence, and state legislatures often acting like wholly owned subsidiaries of the gun lobby, safety advocates are turning to technology to save lives with a renewed push for so-called “smart guns” that can only be fired by their rightful owner.

Nobody wants them except for non gun owing liberals.

The military, police, sportsmen, and target shooters do not want them.

Years ago Hammerli sold a high end target pistol with an electronic trigger. They discontinued it because of too many complaints of unreliability. It turned out that most of the problems were because the battery was dead.

When I pull the trigger, I want my gun to fire.

I don't want it working sometimes like my computer.

Yeah. And let's have cars that can only be driven by the owner(gonna be hard on Avis and Hertz's bottom line!), riding lawnmowers the same, ANYTHING that could be harmful. Folding knives definitely shouldn't be allowed to be opened by anybody but the owner - and so on. After all WTH should you be able to loan your personal property to whoever you want to ?

Here's how any gun control debate should go:

"We need common sense gun safety laws."

"No."

"But..."

"No."

"How about if we..."

"No."

"But we have to..."

"No."

"Is that all you can say? NO?"

"Yes."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms. — Tench Coxe in `Remarks on the First Part of the Amendments to the Federal Constitution' under the Pseudonym "A Pennsylvanian" in the Philadelphia Federal Gazette, June 18, 1789 at 2 col. 1.
