I struggle with this loss every day, as does my entire family. One way that I have dealt with that struggle is by volunteering with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, an organization that supports Second Amendment rights while also fighting for laws that can effectively reduce the gun violence that affects so many Americans, me and my family included. Right now this organization – with the support of law enforcement leaders from across the state – is battling to block a dangerous gun bill, HB 1911, which would eliminate the licensing requirements, including criminal background checks and safety training, for Texans who choose to carry a loaded handgun in public. |

As a resident of Texas, and a concealed handguns license holder, I find this lady's efforts misguided. Whoever shot her father was most likely not a responsible gun owner. Yet he had a gun and almost certainly violated numerous laws that failed to prevent this shooting.
These anti-gun Moms need to understand that criminals and miscreants already carry guns in violation of the law. It will still be illegal under constitutional carry for prohibited persons to carry a gun. Laws only place restrictions on honest law abiding citizens. They don't do anything to restrict the activities of criminals.
These Moms should get behind something that would do some good like tougher sentences for criminals convicted of gun crimes. |

TO REMEMBER |
Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands? — Patrick Henry, 3 J. Elliot, Debates in the Several State Conventions 45, 2d ed. Philadelphia, 1836 |
