    | A few weeks ago, there was a rally at the Capitol to stand in solidarity for workers' rights. At the last minute, I was asked to bring my portable sound device so those in attendance could hear those who were speaking. I went through the security checkpoint and had it held back — it is not allowed in the Capitol. And that is fine. I’m sure there are good reasons for that rule; the folks working those entrances are there for a purpose and they were doing their jobs.

    | Baloney. The very idea that vetted, licensed concealed-carry permit holders, the most law-abiding people statistically in the country (and that includes POLICE), will suddently go nuts over a controversial proposal and start capping people, is the height of irrational paranoia. |

                      | By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our Founding Fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny, which gave rise to the second amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of the country. For that reason I believe the second amendment will always be important. --JOHN F. KENNEDY | | |
