Six people were killed and at least 15 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago between Friday evening and Monday morning. The city recorded its 200th homicide on Tuesday, according to Chicago Sun-Times data. More than 1,150 people have been shot in Chicago this year. The weekend’s latest fatal shooting happened at 2:43 p.m. Sunday in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. Jamari Richmond, 18, was playing basketball when someone fired shots at him from a vehicle driving north in the 7300 block of South Union, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands? — Patrick Henry, 3 J. Elliot, Debates in the Several State Conventions 45, 2d ed. Philadelphia, 1836 |
