On the day of the tragic shooting at Terminal 2 at the Fort Lauderdale airport on Jan. 6, I had the misfortune of listening to right-wing talk radio during a long drive. Discussion turned to what could have been done to prevent the attack, and I heard that sad but persistent fallacy: "If only the other passengers had been armed ..."

In any particular incident, a gun might not be the answer. A terrorist wearing an explosive vest armed with a "deadman's switch," for example .... shoot him and BOOM! It's over for everyone. But what do you get when you ban guns? "Go on your shooting spree here" zones is what you get. The criminals DO NOT OBEY THE LAWS!!! THAT'S WHY THEY'RE CALLED C-R-I-M-I-N-A-L-S!!

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. — Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967. |
