A second new survey, this one by the anti-gun Violence Policy Center in D.C., found that when guns are used to kill people, all but a tiny number are used for murder, not self defense. During a four-year period ending with 2012, according to the study, 42,419 killings were criminal homicides and just 1,108—or 2.49 percent—were justifiable homicides.

This seems to be the latest numbers game being used by the anti gun crowd to lie to uninformed readers. You see, it's really not a defensive gun use unless the victim kills their attacker. If the criminal is only wounded or flees unharmed it doesn't count. Let me cherry pick the data like that and I could make a case for darned near any position, no matter how foolish it might be. |

I suspect that the entire study is bogus. 1102 justifiable homicides in 4 years sounds entirely too low. That is exactly 3 every four days. I believe the number is artificially low.
Furthermore, most of the criminal homicides are gang members and drug dealers killing each other. That is not anything that I lose sleep over. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
To prohibit a citizen from wearing or carrying a war arm . . . is an unwarranted restriction upon the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of constitutional privilege. [Wilson v. State, 33 Ark. 557, at 560, 34 Am. Rep. 52, at 54 (1878)] |
