About every other week, Dennis Bristow visits Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge. Sometimes, he goes there as part of a crew of volunteers who maintain a network of trails that offers sweeping views of the Sakonnet River on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. At other times, he just likes to spend time appreciating the quiet beauty of the refuge.

“There’s a deep emotion that people feel for that place,” [Bristow] said. “And hunting will hurt it.”
Putting venison, fowl and trout on the table is more important than your 'feelings.' Go somewhere else to have your tofu picnics. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. — James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46 |
