States that have more relaxed criteria for allowing residents to carry concealed handguns have a higher rate of gun deaths than states with stricter requirements, according to a study released Thursday. Researchers at the Boston University School of Public Health found that states that have so-called “may issue” laws — which give law enforcement officials wide discretion to decide who can receive a concealed carry permit — have lower gun death rates than states that call for little discretion once basic criteria for obtaining the permit is met, also known as “shall issue” laws. |

Ummm, and how many of those deaths were due to criminals getting their ass handed to them.
Of course states with more lenient carry laws will have more deaths, it only means more criminals are getting shot by their victims.
I think this is a flawed study as nowhere did I see the criteria used to tally this increase.

Actually, studies by Professor Gary Kleck of the University of Florida and Professors Lott and Mustard of the University of Chicago, as well as others, have proved repeatedly that states with the fewest gun control laws have lower murder rates.

And while there is a link to the study, you have to pay to be able to view it. Figures. |
