On this issue, no matter where it comes up, everyone misses the fundamental question which has NOTHING to do with does it make us "safer" or not.
The question is, "Does this prohibition unconstitutionally infringe the right to bear arms for self-defense?"
The "safety" meme is pure misdirection. There is no evidence that such prohibitions provide more "safety"; in fact, there is no evidence that the lack of them provides LESS "safety".
It's a right. It is fundamental. It can't be proscribed.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. — Robert Heinlein |
