A state lawmaker is seeking an end to Tennessee's firearm silencer ban in the name of "hearing protection." Republican Rep. Tilman Goins of Morristown has filed legislation that would remove silencers from the list of weapons banned for having "no common lawful purpose." Others include machine guns, short-barreled shotguns, brass knuckles and explosive weapons.

Think of all my neighbors knocking off 10 to 20% of their boom when target practicing. My basement lights will swing less when he gets the 30-06 ready for hunting season. What a healthy boost for shooting, both in economic activity and reducing noise. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. — Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967. |
