The violence that besieged a Las Vegas concert earlier this month is almost incomprehensible. Almost 60 died, and hundreds more were injured, as a deranged gunman rained bullets down on them from 32 stories up and 400 yards away. Following an incident such as this, there are always two questions we must ask. First, how could we have stopped this specific tragedy from happening? And second, how can we address the broader problem of American gun violence in a way that will be both effective and consistent with the Second Amendment? |

BZZZZT! Sorry, Bob. You get Simon Cowel's BIG X on two points, at least.
"[Bump stocks] can dramatically increase the body count of a mass shooting but do not make a gun more useful for legitimate purposes such as self-defense or hunting."
The key legitimate purpose of the 2A is to enable defense against gov't tyranny, and the 2A was intended for the people and government forces to be in parity. Since that is no longer the case, how would we meet gov't aggression when it can have full-auto weapons and we can't?
And there is no constitutional delegation of federal power to regulate private sales. They are not 'commerce'.
Back to the drawing board, genius. |
