CA: DOJ’s “Bullet-Button Assault Weapon” Registration Webpage Continually Crashing and Preventing Gun Owners from Complying with California Law

California gun owners have just over 24 hours to register any firearms now classified as an “assault weapon” under Senate Bill 880 “SB 880” and Assembly Bill 1135 “AB 1135”. All registration applications must be completed and submitted before 11:59 on Saturday, June 30, 2018.

To do so, applications must be submitted online using DOJ’s “California Firearms Application Reporting System” or “CFARS” for short. But with the registration deadline close-at-hand, it appears CFARS is unable to handle the amount of traffic and is consistently crashing or otherwise preventing gun owners from submitting any applications.

It won't take that long.

I predict that CA's attorney general will declare an amnesty period allowing residents to register their 'assault weapons' after tonight's deadline.

Then the AG will declare that the AG had no authority to offer an amnesty, and every sucker who registered late is SOL.

I didn't just make up the above, there's historical precedent (different AG, of course) for the exact thing happening.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction. — St. George Tucker, in his edition of 'Blackstone's Commentaries,' 1:300 (1803).
