I would prefer the second outcome, which is that we re-interpret the Second Amendment as not being an absolute guarantee to bear arms — after all, who would argue that people have the right to own nuclear weapons — but rather a right to be well regulated. A good starting point would be to close loopholes which allow people to purchase guns without a background check and to increase penalties for crimes committed by criminals using illegally obtained guns.
Some of you might call me a liberal idealist, which I admit to, but I suspect that the vast majority of people murdered by gun violence would be in favor of tighter controls. |

Don't forget to "reinterpret" the 1st amendment to state there is no guarantee of free speech; any editorial or public statement must be vetted by a special new office in the FBI. Also, the forth and fifth amendments are qualified too. Maybe some crimes ought not require warrants and some crimes so heinous the perpetrator should be forced to testify. Maybe we should just trash the whole Constitution and B.O.R. After all, being SAFE is so phantasmagorically important in transcends ALL our rights! /sarcasm off. |

Yes you are a liberal idealist, which means you, either, know NOTHING about this Republic, or care NOTHING about this Republic, both paths are anti-American!!!!! |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing) |
