When shooters hear the words “guide gun, big game, and lever action rifles” used in the same sentence, most will immediately think of the 45-70 Government. And for good reason too, as the 45-70 was one of the cartridges that won the West and can take down virtually any North American game animal.

i have both calibre's when i want fast heavy loads i load my 450 Marlin. i keep my 45-70 loads at Springfield 1973 SRC pressures. In the SRC i load a 500 gr bullet at 1250 fps using the Lyman 457125 mold and either RL-7 or AA 5744. In the 450 Marlin i load a max load using the 350 gr RN Hornady to 2200 fps. I've got it covered quite nicely. JimP.
