It comes as 41 people have been killed in stabbings in the UK this year. Single kitchen knives are the most frequently stolen knives, Asda said, prompting the decision to stop their sale by the end of April.
Nick Jones, Asda senior vice-president, said the company had "a responsibility to support the communities we serve".
"Whilst we have already taken steps to restrict the sale of knives to ensure that they do not fall into the wrong hands, we felt there was more we could be doing to support those looking at how to bring this issue under control", he said.
The store said it would continue to sell multipacks of knives. |

The article implies that kitchen knives are responsible for the 41 people killed with knives. This is not very likely as the miscreants doing the killings would more likely be armed with folding knives that are easier and safer to conceal.
They are removing the single knife packs because they are losing money on them due to thief. They are most likely targeted for theft because they are expensive items and easily concealed.
This article by linking theft of kitchen knives to stabbings is inflammatory and misleading.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so. Indeed I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order. — Adolf Hitler, April 11, 1942.
