Remington Arms has laid off 122 employees.
Village officials are calling it a "reflection on the economy."
Ilion Mayor Terry Leonard told Eyewitness News he has been informed by management at the plant that the move is the result of low sales. Remington Arms has seen periodic layoffs in the past.but some of those let go were brought back when sales picked up.
Roughly 960 employees remain on the job at America's oldest gun manufacture, which is also the village's largest employer. |

Remington just opened a facility in Huntsville Alabama .... I wonder if that fact might be atleast partially responsible for the layoffs in Ilion? |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
No kingdom can be secured otherwise than by arming the people. The possession of arms is the distinction between a freeman and a slave. He, who has nothing, and who himself belongs to another, must be defended by him, whose property he is, and needs no arms. But he, who thinks he is his own master, and has what he can call his own, ought to have arms to defend himself, and what he possesses; else he lives precariously, and at discretion. — James Burgh, Political Disquisitions: Or, an Enquiry into Public Errors, Defects, and Abuses [London, 1774-1775]. |
