The board of education for the Detroit Public Schools Community District opposes allowing concealed weapons to be carried in schools, a bill that would allow charter schools to share revenue from a special millage, and any future attempt to dilute the power of locally elected school board members.
Those were among the positions the board took during a meeting this week in which members set their legislative agenda.
"The recommendation would be to oppose allowing individuals other than officers to bring concealed weapons to schools," Superintendent Nikolai Vitti said. |

The school board would like to register their opposition to any measure that might reduce the power of the school board.
-Gee, what a surprise. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing) |
