After shootings left 10 people dead and 74 injured in Rochester this summer, public officials have set their sights on a fresh approach to criminal cases that involve illegal gun possession.
The idea is for courts to deal more effectively with people who are caught carrying firearms illegally by handing down more consistent sentences and assigning young offenders to a closely supervised probation program if they show the potential to reform. |

"Right now, a lot of our people in our community are not afraid to carry an illegal gun, because in many ways they know they will be out tomorrow or in two days," Warren said.
"We have so few people who are responsible for so many violent crimes," said Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli. "If we can change the path of just a few, we can have a significant impact."
That says it all. The same miscreants causing the problems, and the courts let them out in one or two days.
And the liberals want to punish law abiding gun owners for the failure of the court system to severely punish the criminals.
The current laws are adequate. We don't need more laws that the criminals will ignore anyway. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all — security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again. — EDWARD GIBBON [On ancient Athens] |
