en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm_legislation_in_South_Africa In South Africa, the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 regulates the ownership of firearms by civilians. Ownership of a firearm is conditional on a competency test and several other factors, including background checking of the applicant, inspection of an owner's premises, and licensing of the weapon by the police introduced in July 2004.
The Registrar may issue a licence under this section to any natural person who—
needs a firearm for self-defence; and cannot reasonably satisfy that need by means other than the possession of a firearm - 200 rounds max limit on ammo, must be certificated/licensed for it, show proof you own gun/caliber it works in, can't buy for gun you don't own. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)] |
