    | The media could contribute to the debate by reporting more completely the toll of firearms deaths and injuries. A comprehensive accounting could update the body count every day until we risked being sickened and enraged by the loss. What good would this do? Citizens might push legislatures to enact mandatory firearms liability insurance. In states such as Maryland, where guns kill more people than motor vehicles, we should be constantly reminded how much blood is spilled in preventable violence. If all who wanted to arm themselves had to qualify for insurance, gun owners would support gun locks and other safety devices.

    | The media COULD contribute by reporting more completly the utility of personnally owned firearms in self defense actions, of which there are about 500,000 to 1,000,000 per year in America. But THAT would require the American media to play fair and equal .... and THAT is far too much to hope for....unfortunatly.

    | When will the idiots figure it out. The problem is not the availability of guns. The problem is a culture that has no respect for laws, human life, or property. Most of these low life already have criminal records and should be in prison. As long as the system keeps letting them out on bail and probation the problem will continue. One could easily conclude that the government won't prosecute the criminals to the extent that they could because it doesn't suit their agenda.
Unfortunately, the liberal judicial system abets the problem by placing restrictions on inmate treatment in prison that adds to the cost of incarceration. As far as I am concerned, if you can shove them in and still close the door, the prison isn't full yet.
