Edited E-Mail Received By The Eggman 2/10/2005 From Mark Beam's Aunt
An 11-year-old nephew, Michael Beam, has been charged with a weapons violation and removed from his home.
His 3-year-old brother was playing with a toy gun, books and other toys and placed them in a book bag that Michael grabbed and took to school.
Upon arrival at school he notified his teacher that the toy gun and other toys were in his book bag. Michael was charged and removed from his home.
He has been placed in a group home and is permitted to see his parents, brothers and other family on weekends.
The authors say "We are hoping to create enough awareness ... to save other families from suffering the same nightmare we are experiencing."
------- "A Yadkin County student says he brought a BB gun to school by mistake and now faces tough consequences, even though he alerted the principal after recognizing his mistake." "Michael Beam is charged with possessing a weapon and has been ordered to a group home. ..."
"Beam said he discovered the BB gun in an old book bag before a recent trip to school at Yadkin Success Academy."
"Before leaving home that morning, he had moved his school supplies to the bag because his other bag was dirty."
"As soon as he got off the school bus, Beam turned the gun in to a principal." |
