But the questionnaire serves another purpose: It essentially amounts to a list of promises that candidates are expected to keep if they get elected to office. Especially for those conservatives who on the survey identify as pro-gun rights, they will be expected to vote accordingly when the time comes. The NRA issues letter grades to lawmakers based on how closely they adhere to the group’s platform, and anything less than an “A” can be used against a conservative candidate in future elections.
