All of the crises, whether they be terrorism, crime, pandemic, economic recession, or just the election of Democrats, remind people that they are vulnerable. It's easy to be completely oblivious and to think it can't happen to you, and a lot of people trudge through life in that state. Events that prove otherwise make people realize how exposed they are, so they do what they can to mitigate it. It's not irrational like buying up massive amounts of toilet paper... the truth is that life is not safe, and a gun is a tool for coping with living in an unsafe world.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. Noah Webster in "An Examination into the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution," 1787, in Paul Ford, ed., Pamphlets on the Constitution of the United States, at p. 56 (New York, 1888). |
