... "Take the Second Amendment — the right to bear arms. A good example of the amendment’s misinterpretation is provided by the National Rifle Association."

"When the Constitution was written we were at war with England, Indians were fighting with the colonists, and the nation was expanding west. Everyone was a member of one militia or another. Everyone carried some type of weapon, either a pistol or a long rifle. Farmers carried their weapons out to their fields with them or to town. Their weapon was their life or their family’s life."

"Today’s world is a totally different time and place."

"The arms some people want to bear are assault rifles and automatic weapons. They say they are hunters and target shooters. ..." ...

The author admitted something he didn't realize...

"Everyone carried... or a long rifle."

The long rifle was superior to the normal military arm of the day, the musket.

It shot straighter and farther, and was deadlier. It was used to effect by the colonists to win the WAR. (Bill Cosby described it well)

I posted civil responses to this ****, TWICE.

Neither has appeared.

Time will tell, but it appears that this publication refuses to recognize cogent rebuttal.

"Falsehood will fly, as it were, on the wings of the wind, and carry its tales to every corner of the earth; whilst truth lags behind; her steps, though sure, are slow and solemn...."

I think that pretty much covers the writer's contribution to the "gun debate" & everything else poured out by the proponents of victim disarmament.

Our founding fathers didn't define or delimit "arms" the populace might bear without being infringed. IOW, they foresightedly envisioned a "balance of power" between government and populace. Advance this some 150 years and "what's changed " about this philosophy ? Americans have access to light infantry weapons equivalent to its government. Or they would, if certain groups and departments of government weren't working overtime in crafting "regulations/laws" prohibiting the "balance of power" crafted by our founders.

liberty, freedom and safety must be purchased in a dear coin. The blood of tyrants and patriots.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Nations and peoples who forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms. — Robert Heinlein
