“The 1st amendment right to freedom of speech does not guarantee someone the right to yell fire in a crowded theater,” said Sen. Martin Looney.
The bill of rights exists to PROHIBIT the government from abridging certain rights. It does not exist to ENCOURAGE government from doing so, it is a list of COMMANDS.
And, the "fire in a crowded theater" thing again? Still? This shibboleth has been debunked so many times it's aggravating that idiot pols are still parroting it. |
