FL: Another time to wonder why assault weapons are legal

When three masked intruders broke into the back door of a home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, the person living there, Zach Peters, 23, picked up an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle and killed them all.

The three would-be burglars turned out to be teenagers without criminal records or firearms, and the shooting was ruled legally justifiable under Oklahoma’s castle doctrine law.

Idiot! An AR-15 is NOT an assault weapon!

Would you be happier if Nikolas had used an old WWII Garand, or a lever-action .30-30? Or any other rifle that wasn't black and mean looking?

Geee, Zach Peters should have conducted a NICS check on the intruders before he shot them! Or atleast asked them if they were good guy criminals or bad guy criminals!
Or at the very least used a shotgun rather than an EVIL BLACK RIFLE, so the bad guys wouldn't be as dead as they wound up being, right?
What twaddle this article is!

The reason so-called "assault weapons" are legal is that there is case-law precedent protecting the right to keep and bear them (U.S. v. Miller, 1939)

It is the position of the Court that arms "in common use" (like AR-15s) that have "some reasonable relationship to the efficiency...of a well-regulated militia" and/or are "any part of the ordinary military equipment" are precisely those within the ambit of 2A protection.

It is precedent that clearly establishes that the gov't not only can't ban such firearms, but that any regulations on their possession and use must stand "strict scrutiny" to pass muster, and must be narrowly tailored to achieve a compelling gov't interest and actually accomplish its stated goal.

"The AR-15 is much more commonly used as an offensive weapon."

Actually these rifles are much more commonly used for shooting at targets, hunting, and sporting events.

This guy's an idiot with an agenda.

The real problem with school shootings are that the schools are victim disarmament zones and no one can respond effectively for the five to 15 minutes it takes the cops to show up.

The killers know that and that is why they choose such venues for their carnage.

If you kill someone with a Ruger 10/22 are they less dead than if you used an AR-15??? Please explain....
