"'It’s official,' Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America jefe Shannon Watts pronounces at huffingtonpost.com, 'the phrase 'open carry' has entered the American lexicon. That’s because gun extremists from Virginia to Washington to Texas and all across the country have started showing up in restaurants, state capitols, and other public places openly carrying loaded semiautomatic rifles. Occasionally donning kilts or gas masks and other attention-getting attire, these extremists look as though they are headed to battle instead of visiting their legislators or picking up milk at their local Kroger grocery store.' For many decades I was a staunch advocate of open carry for anyone not adjudicated unfit to be armed. But over the past decade or so, as society has changed, I've come to embrace CCW as more practical and effective . But I haven't changed my stance on who may go armed.
There are times/places where open carry is a practical alternative or necessity in order to maintain the security of one's arms and public safety. I won't leave my firearm(s) out of my personal control in any public venue. Period. Nor do I believe any owner should be compelled to do so by any agency or government. Unless that agency/government is going to accept total responsibility for its security and safety. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our Founding Fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny, which gave rise to the second amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of the country. For that reason I believe the second amendment will always be important. --JOHN F. KENNEDY |
