In the wake of Oscar nominations, Academy members begin buzzing over recent criticism of the film’s subject, Chris Kyle Even as “American Sniper” breaks January box-office records and revels in six Oscar nominations, criticism over the subject of the film, sharpshooter Chris Kyle, is rising and reaching into the Academy of Motion Picture of Arts and Sciences, which votes on the Academy Awards. Over the weekend, multiple Academy members told TheWrap that they had been passing around a recent article by Dennis Jett in The New Republic that attacks the film for making a hero out of Kyle, who said: “The enemy are savages and despicably evil,” and his “only regret is that I didn’t kill more.” |

Well, "killer" is the easiest concept for the "elites" to grasp because the reality is too complex. Snipers are dedicated to protecting their own. They're also the "surgeon's knife", excising the murderous tissue while leaving healthy alone. Without their skill and dedication "troops in contact" would have little recourse but to call for supporting fires. That means collateral damage and non-combatant casualties.
These are the hard realities leftists/progressives won't acknowledge. IOW its not the "body count" snipers achieve, but the numbers of lives their "surgical precision" in removing active threats save ! Having read everything Chris Kyle wrote, I've come to realize this was his personal "great unknown". |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
I do believe that where there is a choice only between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence. Thus when my eldest son asked me what he should have done had he been present when I was almost fatally assaulted in 1908 [by an Indian extremist opposed to Gandhi's agreement with Smuts], whether he should have run away and seen me killed or whether he should have used his physical force which he could and wanted to use, and defend me, I told him it was his duty to defend me even by using violence. Hence it was that I took part in the Boer War, the so-called Zulu Rebellion and [World War I]. Hence also do I advocate training in arms for those who believe in the method of violence. I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honor than that she should in a cowardly manner become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor. — Mohandas K. Gandhi, Young India, August 11, 1920 from Fischer, Louis ed.,The Essential Gandhi, 1962 |
