Cruz’s assertion was so absurd that Lindsey Graham — sporting an A rating from the NRA — not-so-subtlely compared Cruz to Jefferson Davis, pointing out that as far as armed rebellions go, “we tried that once in South Carolina. I wouldn’t go down that road again.”
The email is a reprisal of a meme normally reserved for NRA forums and first year government seminars at Liberty University, trotted out by gun activists once they’ve run out of arguments for why they so desperately need to keep an arsenal of high-caliber weapons stockpiled in their toolshed. |

| Jon, your bio explains it all. But you can't cherry pick the constitution. Nor the writings of the founders, either. Multiple writers of the era, (and more recent ones as well) have ringingly stated its both the privilege and duty of americans to restrain government whenever and wherever it overreaches its constitutional bounds. The founders described a citizen force with arms equal to government troops. No reason not - and perhaps more - reason that situation shouldn't prevail today. Why doesn't the USG go to great lengths to prohibit/license or restrict private citizens from having them ? And why is government working so adamantly to expand its control of common sporting and recreational arms ? |
