A year and a half after he died, I still think about my dad every day. I also think about how I lost him to a devastating epidemic that hurts Americans from all walks of life: firearm suicide. On any given day this crisis takes the lives of 58 people. But for all the heartbreak it causes, there have been too few conversations about how we can help someone in crisis before they pick up a gun. |

(paraphrasing Archie Bunker)
"Would you be happier, little girl, if he'da jumped out a window?"
One of my close friends suffering from alcohol-induced depession didn't have a gun handy. He wrapped a chain in a towel, tossed it over his bathroom door, pulled it tight and stepped off a chair to hang himself.
Sorry, I just DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT. |

You don't need a gun to commit suicide. Japan has a much higher suicide rate than the USA with almost no guns involved.
If someone is intent on suicide, they will find a way. I am tired of all the whining about guns used in suicides. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Some people think that the Second Amendment is an outdated relic of an earlier time. Doubtless some also think that constitutional protections of other rights are outdated relics of earlier times. We The People own those rights regardless, unless and until We The People repeal them. For those who believe it to be outdated, the Second Amendment provides a good test of whether their allegiance is really to the Constitution of the United States, or only to their preferences in public policies and audiences. The Constitution is law, not vague aspirations, and we are obligated to protect, defend, and apply it. If the Second Amendment were truly an outdated relic, the Constitution provides a method for repeal. The Constitution does not furnish the federal courts with an eraser." --9th Circuit Court Judge Andrew Kleinfeld, dissenting opinion in which the court refused to rehear the case while citing deeply flawed anti-Second Amendment nonsense (Nordyke v. King; opinion filed April 5, 2004) |
