Rebutting Nicki Fellenzer's "What
Women Want" Article
from KABA Member Jim Hager

I think Mrs. Fellenzer needs to define her
audience more clearly. One might assume, based on her comment about men being
afraid that their wives will shoot better than them, that she is attacking male
shooters. Personally, every male shooter I know has done his best to get his
wife, girlfriend or friends in general involved in shooting sports. I don't
think any of us doubt, that if we are to be successful, we need to have the
support and allegiance of all shooters, male and female. I believe that Mrs.
Fellenzer has fallen right into our enemy's trap. She is allowing herself to be
manipulated by the anti-gun activists. They have habitually attempted to divide
our ranks, they have pitted hunters against trap and skeet shooters, riflemen
against pistol shooters. Now, Mrs. Fellenzer is making shooting a gender based
battle. Why is it that our fellow supporters of the second amendment can't seem
to understand that when any of our numbers are denied their rights to keep and
bear arms, we're all losers. It matters not whether we shoot paper, steel, clay
or game, we all share a common bond. We all need to search for and support our
similarities, not exploit our differences.
Loud mouthed, egocentric individuals, whether
they are male or female, are a detriment to our efforts. Mrs. Fellenzer's
rhetoric and venom shouldn't have been published or supported by KABA. Anything
that divides our ranks or alienates our supporters is deleterious to our beliefs
and our goals.
I have probably taught more women to shoot, and
shoot well, than Mrs. Fellenzer will ever teach. I take offense to her gross
generalizations and her clear inability to put our second amendment rights
before her petty ego. With friends like her, perhaps we don't need any enemies.
Respectfully,
Jim Hager
