As a former NRA Director, it may surprise some folks that Courtney Love of
Hole is one of my favorite musicians, as was her heroin addict husband, Nirvana
grungemeister Curt Cobain. Tragically, years ago, in a suicidal stupor, Curt
blew his brains out with a shotgun. So, recently, Courtney attended the
"Million" Mom March, proclaiming that if guns were banned, people like
Curt would still be alive. Wow. That's deep.
Here's another deep thought: If only drugs were banned, people wouldn't
become addicts, fry their brains, and kill themselves. On the other hand, maybe
drugs contributed to Courtney's surprisingly powerful intellect.
So many tradeoffs.
Sadly, in countries like Japan, gun bans don't prevent suicide rates higher
than ours. Solution? Maybe we should ban suicide, too. While we're at it, let's
pass a law requiring us all to love one another.
