McCain Anti-Gunshow Amendment Passes in U.S. Senate

Many people fear this more than they fear the gun ban renewal

March 2, 2004

KeepAndBearArms.com -- By a vote of 53 to 46, the McCain amendment (S.Amdt. 2636 to S. 1805) to "close" the so-called "gun show loophole" has been tacked on as an amendment to the NRA's "top legislative priority" bill. The bill seeks to close off private sales at gun shows and further register guns and gunowners.

The Senate also voted 52 to 47 to renew the semi-auto rifle and magazine ban. They also voted to give local law enforcement officers exemption from the concealed carry laws of all fifty states -- including for cops who oppose citizen-carry in their own communities.

Final passage of the bill is expected this afternoon.

Below are the Roll Call votes for the BAN RENEWAL amendment. You can confirm this online at:

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no recourse left but in the exertion of that original right of self defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government. — Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist (#28)
