Las Vegas Weekend
Las Vegas Weekend
by
Dave McPhail
As you may know I just recently escaped the PRK to Nevada so to some of you, folks who have lived in Nevada or Arizona for example, this may not seem like a big deal, but for someone like myself, who has lived in the oppressive Socialist People's Republik of Kalifornia for the last 36 years, this past weekend was quite a treat.
Not only was it a treat, but it
was enlightening, as well.
Now, I have attended numerous gun shows in the past but only in the PRK, so when I went to the gun show here in Las Vegas I was in for a surprise. It was a pleasant surprise, but a surprise nonetheless. What I saw there was simply astounding!
They sell submachine guns in Nevada! And suppressors, too!
Yes, yes, I knew that before, but to see full-auto and suppressed weapons, not to mention all those eeeeeevil black semi-auto rifles, displayed right out in the open, available for sale makes one feel like a kid in a candy store. The exhibitors, several of whom have retail stores in Las Vegas, were extremely helpful and allowed me to actually hold some of
'em. (Thanks to everyone at Machine Gun Kelly's Gun Vault - see NFA Weapon Information Sheet below. The folks at Machine Gun
Kelly's Gun Vault will walk you through the process of purchasing a Class III
weapon.)
Guess what else I discovered? Surprise, there is no "Gun Show Loophole." Although private party sales can be conducted between individuals wishing to buy or sell a gun here and there from private collections without government interference, licensed firearms dealers still comply with the requirement of the useless Brady Bunch Bill. No one was attempting to buy or sell anything illegally.
Further, I found that if you already possess a CCW, the Brady Bunch Bill requirements are waived. Even some of the dealers from the PRK were somewhat amazed at this.
I even saw my all-time favorite, the HK MP5SD for $10,150.00!
OK, so it's not really that big of a deal. I have fired full-auto and suppressed weapons before. Actually, I have trained with them in FBI combat training courses. But those weapons, (the agents instructing the classes did let us play with their HK MP5SDs) were not available for sale. I couldn't take them out whenever I wanted to and shoot them. So, the knowledge that I can (and probably will) legally purchase even a suppressed Ruger MKII is kinda neat.
So, you may be asking, what is the point behind all this?
The point is, my friends, the State of Nevada, and yes, even the feds, will allow us to own NFA or Class III weapons. Oh, sure, we have to pay an exorbitant $200.00 per unit transfer tax, but that's not the point. The point is, as far as my research goes, there has not been a single documented case of someone using a legally owned Class III weapon in the commission of a crime.
And yet, the PRK confiscates legally owned SKS rifles (which are still common in the Silver State). The PRK has mandated that legally owned SEMI-AUTO rifles, simply due to the eeeeeeevil, (that E-Ville) appearance, which is mostly cosmetic anyway, must be registered, and thereby become subject to eventual confiscation, just as the SKS was.
Just a side note, in a previous editorial I mentioned that there is virtually no difference between the AR-15 and a Ruger Mini-14 except cosmetically. I received numerous e-mails about that and was taken to task over that comment. However, I stick by my assertion, but I will clarify my comment.
They are both semi-auto; they both fire the pitiful .223; both are capable of utilizing large capacity magazines. In short, as far as the PRK bureaucrats are concerned, the only difference between the two is that one is BLACK and one is not; one has a wood stock and one is PLASTIC; one looks mean and evil whereas the other is nice and friendly.
It's sorta like the difference between "Black Talons" and "Safety Slugs."
We can't own Black Talons because they are evil, cop killer bullets and according to (gag) DiFi, they are designed to rip your guts out or that because they are teflon coated they will punch through a
cop's body armor (they might but not because they are teflon coated). It doesn't matter that not a single cop has ever been killed (correct me if I'm mistaken on this) with Black Talon bullets.
But Glaser Safety Slugs (which are designed not to exit the poor unfortunate burglar, but
to expend all it's energy in the BURGLARY SUSPECT'S torso) are OK because they are "Safety Slugs." Huh? Now wait, does this mean that bullets designed for HOME DEFENSE are OK to own? Great, because that's what I have for home defense.
Anyway, as I was saying, I repeat (especially to those of you who were really pissed off at me for saying so, you missed the point) there is no difference between the two rifles. That is when THEY (as in They, Them, the MiB) finally realize that they are both .223 semi-auto rifles. NO SIR, they won't say oh, sorry we made a mistake, you can have your AR-15s back. Nope, they will say, "Damn, we missed a few. Better start writing a new confiscation law for that nasty Mini-14." (Maybe AR-15s should be made with WHITE plastic)
Do you honestly think THEY haven't already started working on that one? If you think that your Mini 14 is safe, you need to rethink that one. There are already idiots out there classifying 10-22s as "assault weapons." (BTW, have you considered storing your rifles out of state as an alternative to registration?)
At the gun show I actually saw a semi-auto Barrett .50 BMG. THEY are already attempting to ban 50s and sniper rifles. Hey, hunters, do you know what a sniper rifle is? Can you say "varmint rifle" or "deer gun?"
Anyway, all this is to point out how unreasonable these obsessed anti-gun nuts are. They are obsessed with taking all our guns, not just the "ugly, mean looking ones."
Are we obsessed with keeping our guns? You're damn right we are! We're obsessed with a determination not to be disarmed. We are obsessed with not allowing ourselves and our families to become statistical victims. We are obsessed with maintaining our freedom, as freedom loving, liberty loving people.
Oh, call me crazy, but it just so happens that during my 46 years I have grown accustomed to a certain level of freedom and I'm not gonna give it up without a fight. By God, I will not go quietly!
In one of his Las Vegas shows Bill Cosby said, "I know how we can win here. There's about 400 of us here. There's only 4 security guards out there. We can march on their casino, takin' chips as we go! I mean takin' em! WE COULD DO IT! Are you with me?"
Likewise, I say, there's 80,000,000 of us out there! We can take back what is ours. We can take back what has been taken from us. We can take back what we have allowed the MiB to take. WE COULD DO IT!
Are you with me?
OK, so it's official, I love Nevada and the lack of weird, stoopid weapons laws. So, as soon as I am able to do so I'm gonna open up a gun store (notice to ATF guys; I haven't said ANYTHING negative about the BATF, ok?).
By the way, next weekend I will be visiting Front Sight for their FREE 8 hour submachine gun class. Watch for my report here at KABA.
NFA Weapon Information Sheet
National Firearms Act of 1968
This act is also referred to as the Gun Control Act of 1968. This was an expansion of the Gun Control Act of 1934. It regulates machineguns, short barreled rifles, short
barreled shotguns, suppressors, destructive devices and "any other weapons." (see below) It assigns a federal making tax and a federal transfer tax to the weapons it regulates. Making tax for any NFA weapon is $200.00. Transfer fees for everything except AOW's is $200.00.
Transfer tax on an AOW is $5.00.
Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986
This so-called "protection Act" which took effect in May of 1986 prohibited civilian possession of any machinegun manufactured
after May of 1986. For a machinegun to be considered "transferable" it had to be manufactured and federally registered prior to May of 1986. Machineguns can still be manufactured to this day by properly licensed individuals, however, possession of these newly manufactured machineguns is only legal by police departments or the military. This act did not prohibit continuing manufacture of short shotguns, short rifles,
suprressors, destructive devices or AOWs.
Omnibus Crime Control Bill of 1994
This act federally regulated firearms by specific features. In addition to non NFA weapons, it also regulates registered short barreled rifles and short barreled shotguns. This means if you register a short barreled rifle or short
barreled shotgun, unless you start with a pre-ban (pre-94) shotgun or rifle, the registered short barreled item must be 94 ban compliant.
NFA Transfer Process
1. Decide which item you are interested in.
2. Fill out BATF Form 4.
3. Take Form 4 to your police department for the law enforcement signoff.
4. Take two (2) fingerprint card with you and get them completed at the police department.
5. Get two (2) passport photos taken.
6. Write $200.00 check to the BATF.
7. Mail the form, prints, photos and check to the BATF.
8. Wait, wait, wait and then wait some more (2 to 4 months average).
9. When the BATF has processed your forms they will be returned to the seller and the seller can deliver the item.

Machine Gun Kellys Gun Vault
Las Vegas, Nevada
Kelly Carn, the owner, says he has never seen an application rejected. Typically, if you can legally purchase a handgun you shouldn't have any trouble with a submachine gun with a suppressor. Are you listening Mr. Davis, DiFi, BB?
So, what qualifies as "Any Other Weapon"? The short answer is a pen gun is an AOW. Just in case you don't know what a pen gun is, it is a single shot gun that looks like a pen or perhaps a mini flashlight. Although illegal in the PRK, an AOW (pen gun) is legal in Nevada, however, you must pay the FIVE DOLLAR transfer tax.
The available suppressor does require the $200.00 transfer tax.
Someone please tell me what is the point of a $5.00 transfer tax? Is it just a matter of registration so the MiB knows who has a pen gun?
Go figure.
