It seems that it’s a common practice these days for hunters to buy rifles that reach out and still have enough energy at 600, 700 or even 800 yards to kill big game. So how far is too far to take a shot? It is a fact that the maximum effective range, which is the distance a hunter can consistently put shots into the vital area under field conditions and make a clean kill, varies from one hunter to the next. This is true even if the equipment they are using is all the same. |

Federal efforts to monitor people who attended a California gun show amounted to "heavy-handed surveillance," according to a top House Republican who demanded details on investigative tactics on Tuesday. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials reportedly coordinated with local law enforcement in California to scan the license plates of people who visited gun shows in order to develop a database of potential drug smugglers, according to the Wall Street Journal. But that investigative tactic provoked a protest from the House Judiciary Committee chairman.

Amid the rising number of Americans licensed to carry a concealed handgun, more states are passing laws that don’t require a permit to carry firearms, embracing the view that self-defense is a “natural born” right. Missouri became the fourth state this year to approve a so-called “constitutional carry” law when Republican legislators overrode a veto by Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon on Sept. 15, making permitless carry legal. West Virginia, Mississippi and Idaho also have adopted constitutional carry laws in 2016, bringing the total number of such states to 12. |

Almost immediately after the Wall Street Journal revealed that federal agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement “persuaded” local police officers in Southern California in 2010 to scan the license plates of gun show customers, the Second Amendment Foundation called for a Congressional investigation. SAF founder and executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb called the surveillance effort “a civil rights outrage.” He suggested in a press release that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform investigate. In a strongly-worded statement, he said the effort appeared to have been “one more gun control affront launched during the Obama administration.” |

When I was ‘young’ I wrote an experimental essay on the mind of the bullet which rattled around Lee Harvey Oswald's pocket. Now, I’m writing about the new wave of terror which has manifested itself through the void of obscure gun laws. Like it or not firearms have become baked into society and will remain there until leap frogged by the next evolution in power.

A proposed gun range near an elementary school in New Hudson was given the green light Monday despite concerns over its proximity to the school. Hundreds of people in Lyon Township signed a petition to stop the indoor gun range from being approved. Opponents were concerned that it would be too close to Dolsen Elementary School at Grand River and Milford roads.
But the board of trustees approved the gun range even after hearing from the people who were against it. Many others argued for the idea, saying a gun range is a safe place.
Owners of Huron Valley Guns showed off the plans for their new state of the art firearms facility, which would be built about 750 feet away from the school's playground.

Preventing Gun Violence Through Effective Messaging” is the public relations guide for anti-gun lobbyists and advocates. The more accurate title would have been “Anti-Gun Hate Speech for Beginners.” Secretly produced in 2012 for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) lobby and its allies, it was recently discovered by gun rights supporters. The gun-ban talking points manual is filled with malicious lies about guns and gun owners, along with instructions for how the manual’s readers should disseminate those lies to the public.
